Important message from the superintendent regarding the 2020-21 school year

Dear South Redford Families,

As you know, graduation season is upon us, and we are happy to congratulate the class of 2020.  I am proud that over 98% of our students achieved graduation and have earned their Thurston High School diploma.  This is a great accomplishment!  I am also proud of our staff members who have worked tirelessly during the school year and amid the COVID-19 pandemic to help meet the educational and end-of-year needs of our students as they completed their senior year. I am confident that the graduates of the Thurston Class of 2020 are well prepared for whatever direction they choose for their future, be it college, military service, or career.

Kindergarten Round Up

We are excited to welcome our newest Eagles in the Preschool and Kindergarten classes for the 2020-2021 school year. South Redford offers high quality full day programs for each age group which include comprehensive literacy and mathematics that connect through 5th grade.  Students also experience all content through stations and hands-on activities.

Spaces fill quickly.  If you have not already registered using our online enrollment, you can do so at southredford.org under the Enroll tab.

We look forward to getting to know you and your child prior to the start of school, and will contact you with current information, next steps, and South Redford news throughout the summer.

2020-2021 School Year

The district is actively planning for the 2020-2021 school year.  We are developing a COVID-19 safety response plan and are working with neighboring districts and lawmakers to prepare pathways of learning that are flexible and robust.

Updates:

  • 1:1 Chromebook Program: All students will be provided with a Chromebook to ensure there is a smooth continuity of learning between school and home and to support their education both on- and off-site..
  • Virtual Learning Option: South Redford will offer a full year, 100% virtual learning option as a choice for families.

In addition, we are preparing for three possible reentry scenarios.

  • Full-time onsite instruction - students would return to school full time with a typical schedule.
  • Blended instruction - students would spend 50% of their time onsite and 50% learning remotely.
  • 100% Remote Learning - students would engage in classes remotely.

Regardless of which option we go with, the district will be prepared to shift seamlessly between onsite and remote learning in the case of COVID-19 outbreaks in the state.

Ultimately, it is the state that will determine which of the above options will be implemented and we are awaiting their guidance.  Our administrators and staff are preparing for each scenario to ensure students will be provided a robust educational program.  We want you to know that our decisions will always place your child’s education, health, and well-being above all else. You will continue to receive updates as we move through this process, so please check your email regularly.

Please continue to practice healthy habits. Be safe and Go Eagles!

Sincerely,

Brian Galdes

Superintendent of Schools
